It would be wise to consider vinyl, tile, or carpeting screened for stain resistance, since hardwood floor can damage easily. Laminate and LVT are also a safe option.
You can install certain types of flooring (vinyl, laminate, hardwood, carpet, etc.) over existing flooring, if the surface is firm, hard and flat. You cannot install anything over a layer of any kind of floating floor.

I now live in an old farm house in which the carpets are very old and very stinky. I have a budget. I got a quote for vinyl flooring with skirting amd sealant and self-leveling, but it's too far above my budget. I'm willing to do laminate and see what's the best quote I can get. Hi We have some old Astro that is in storage that we would like to install in our school gym facility. The floor space is roughly 6m wide and 25m in length. Please could you quote on four red carpet runners for me for my sales showroom to walk up to the entrance of an aircraft. Each runner should be 3m x 1m and should be a good quality red carpet (not mottled in any way), with a fabric or canvas type edging that will last and make is sit well on the floor after being rolled up for storage.
