It would be wise to consider vinyl, tile, or carpeting screened for stain resistance, since hardwood floor can damage easily. Laminate and LVT are also a safe option.
You can install certain types of flooring (vinyl, laminate, hardwood, carpet, etc.) over existing flooring, if the surface is firm, hard and flat. You cannot install anything over a layer of any kind of floating floor.
There are waterproof laminate and vinyl flooring, and you can even get hardwood that is quite moisture repellent, but the safest option are ceramic or porcelain tiles. As there is less moisture in the kitchen, you can get more creative there.
Wood floors are more likely to scratch or dent than laminate. Wood scratches can be made less obvious with the use of corrective pens, oils, etc. There are a number of products available to help you with that. If you choose a floor with distressing, then those scratches just become part of the character of your floor.
If you wish to install parquet in damp rooms, such as bathroom, you should select a timber species with low expansion and contraction characteristics, and a timber with a low speed of absorption of moisture (such as oak). Ideally, we would recommend products with 2 or 3 layers. It is also advisable to lay one or two rows of tiles or stone immediately next to the bath/shower or basin to allow for any spray/splashes. But even with this precautions, installing parquet in the bathroom would mean increased work and maintenance expenses. Still, we cannot deny the aesthetic value of it.
When buying parquet, you will need to know you room area (in meters square). You calculate that by multiplying the width (in meters) with the length (in meters) of the floor. Saying that, you should allow for at least 10% of wastage. Some wood will undoubtedly go to waste because of endings, cuttings, etc.
I would like to install reclaimed teak parquet flooring in 3 bedrooms. The existing carpets need to be removed and carted away. Please could you quote on four red carpet runners for me for my sales showroom to walk up to the entrance of an aircraft. Each runner should be 3m x 1m and should be a good quality red carpet (not mottled in any way), with a fabric or canvas type edging that will last and make is sit well on the floor after being rolled up for storage. Floor that will provide warmer underfoot than tiling. We have the top vinyl laminate at the moment. the kind that is not glued down. it could not stand up to a thorough flooding these last storms. waterlogged and curling at the edges, strips of vinyl coming off in the heavy traffic areas. What to replace it with ? Insurance claim involved
