When do I need a building permit in South Africa?
In South Africa, building applications for the construction of property and land use are highly regulated.
We currently have a tiny house (4 m long by 2.3 wide ) which fits a double bed, shelves bath and toilet. We want to extend by building an upstairs section over the existing footprint (so 4 m x 2.3) with an outside deck extension that also acts as a double covered garage (no sides needed on the garage) just decking and paving floor. We have something in mind but would like to get a professional opinion as to whether it is possible or a better design plan of what would be possible as well as keeping cost to a minimum taking the area onto consideration. I would like to redesign my kitchen, living areas and outdoor area. In my kitchen, I would like to remove the kitchen walls and part of the second floor to open up the space. We would like to extend our bathroom, add a shower, add an additional 3 rooms and a courtyard. This will all be added to an outside room that we are currently using as a bedroom, the one room will be a lounge open plan kitchen. The other two rooms, one will be a second bedroom and the other will be made into a study. We want the bathroom, kitchen and study to all lead to the courtyard.

I have an existing commercial property that requires remodelling. However, I am struggling to get the building from the Municipality because the building is quite old.
