Is it cheaper to build or buy a house in South Africa?
The short answer is that it is cheaper to buy an existing house in South Africa but every year less so.
We have a room built against a hill, which means that there is soil directly against half the height of one wall. When it rains, water in the soil seeps down and through the wall, damaging the carpet and the paintwork in the room. What is needed is comprehensive damp-proofing along the length of the wall, and down to foundation level.

The construction is in Boschhoek Mountain Estate 22km outside of Modimole. Brick construction with corrugated roof. The house is completely of grid and needs a electric coupling to the house.
