Do I need an architect if I want to build a house in South Africa?
A professional that is registered with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession must submit the building plans before extending, renovating or building a home.

Just planning. I want a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, simple but neat townhouse. Tiles throughout. Attaching images of a townhouse we have in mind. The main bedroom is not included. Few minor changes needed. Such as the bedrooms being a bit bigger. Bathrooms no baths only showers, toilets and basins. Double garage. Gas stove and oven. 2nd bathroom must be main en suite. Kitchen must be in a line. Place for washing machine and tumble dryer in garage. If possible a walk in closet for main bedroom. Budget Rk.
Hi I’ve got a little room outside that’s connected to our outside braai. The entire place is already covered. I’d like to convert our braai area into the room to extend the kitchen and add a living room to rent it out. It’s roughly 40-50 square metres. I’d like to know what if I need any plans submitted to the city? There’s no real change. Basically just adding one wall to extend the apartment side of the building and takeaway he braai.

We currently have a Lapa that is starting to become dilapidated and would like to build a new entertainment area/granny flat in its place. We have a design in mind and have done a basic render on SketchUp as a visual aid. We do not have plans for the house but hopeful there is a copy at the Municipality.

Hi Yes, We would like to have a few different designs done for our home in Meyerton (Glen Donald). We want want to do everthing in different fases. EG: Fase 1 - building and breaking of the house Fae 2 - Tilling and painting and then decorating We really do need a professional team in order to assist us with this. I have just rented a 2 bedroom apartment, open plan kitchen dining and living area (1 room) that I would like help with selecting curtains, furniture and colours for fabric and custom furniture (all cupboards are built in and main lighting is done throughout the house).
We would like an updated look and feel of the house that we have been staying in for 3+ years now. The specific rooms that desperately need attention are: - courtyard, that we would like to enclose into a functional laundry + storage (5-6m2) - the kitchen (10m2) - 2x bathrooms (combined = +-11m2) Additional concepts might be needed for a built in bookshelf/ cabinet above our queen bed, and a linen cupboard in the hallway. Possible redesign / storage solutions for the open wooden staircase. We are looking for a total remodel and cohesive feel throughout the space: ie. tiles, wall finishes, cupboards, light fixtures/switches, (tiny) kitchen solutions for appliances in these spaces..
